What is the Paleolithic diet?
The Paleolithic period or the Stone Age was a period in time before the agricultural revolution. The humans of this time ate diets of meat, poultry, fish, fruit, vegetables and nuts.
It is suggested that the end of this period saw the start of a whole bunch of diseases such as cancer, obesity, diabetes, heart disease, tooth decay and osteoporosis. Up until the agricultural revolution humans did not eat:
Cereal grains (including but not limited to; wheat, rice, corn and oats), Dairy, Processed foods, Sugar, and Industrialised seed oils.
The Paleo community also excludes: white potatoes, Beans and legumes.
Many of the Paleo community still include:Bacon, Honey, Cocoa, Coffee, Alcohol.
Much argument surrounds these foods and there place in the Paleo diet.
I think it is important to customise your level of extremeness to suit your goals and lifestyle.
My main reason for turning to Paleo was to be as healthy as possible. The new way of eating cleared my skin, has hugely improved my sleeping patterns and taught me how to cook! I would recommend it to everyone, you don't know how good you could feel!
